Artist Statement
Drawing and painting give me great
pleasure...
From early childhood, drawing has been part of my life. Marriage, work, family and a lack of formal art training did deter me for several years but a friend peaked my interest in oil paints and so began my love affair with art. It has been an interesting journey since then and I have dabbled in many of the various mediums, expressing them on paper or canvas.
When I begin to draw and paint, my whole being moves into another world. Colours and shapes take over and time has no boundaries for me. I see beauty in nature and in the things that surround me and I strive to capture them in an artistic way.
Producing what I see, feel, and create brings challenge and satisfaction. The style of my works is considered Representational.

Artist Bio
Elsie resides in Comox, B.C. surrounded by the majestic Comox Glacier, Goose Spit Regional Park, MacDonald Woods, Mack Lang Park, the Filberg Lodge and picturesque Comox Bay.
She has been painting and drawing for the past 30 years. Although primarily self-taught, she has attended workshops by Zolton Szabo, Harry Heine, David MacLagan, Joyce Kamikura, Gerrit Verstraete and Alan Wylie. Elsie also attended one of the Federation of Canadian Artist's Salt Spring Island Seminars. She is an active member of the "F.C.A." and currently paints with "Brushworks" in Comox.
Her background includes teaching children's, adults and seniors painting classes. After being a successful gallery owner for 14 years, Elsie attended the Fine Arts Program at North Island College where she fell in love with the etching process.
The scope of Elsie's work includes oils, watercolours, acrylics, drawings, etchings, monotypes and mixed medium.
Elsie, a founding member of the Originals Only art group has also participated in group shows at the Muir Gallery, Filberg Gallery, Filberg Lodge, in juried shows on Vancouver Island and Vancouver and recently had her own show at the Pearl Ellis Gallery. Her work is in private collections in Canada, USA, Europe and Japan.
