Biography
Leaitta Thompson is a long time resident of the Comox Valley in British Columbia, Canada, whose practice includes photography, graphic design, drawing and mixed media. She has exhibited work in group shows at the Comox Valley Public Art Gallery, and at Shadbolt Studios and has had solo exhibits at the Fireplace Gallery and Joe Reeds. Her professional practice includes freelance graphic design work, as well as private instruction of design programs, photography, and drawing. Some of her works are present in private collections in Canada, USA, Switzerland and Germany.
Lea has associates degrees in Graphic Art and Fine Art from North Island Collage and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. She is interested in documenting everyday events in order to engage the viewer with their own memories and experiences. She is captivated with history and memory and how it is interpreted in our modern world.

I am an interdisciplinary artist using drawing, digital media, collage, film and photography to document matter and spaces. I am fascinated with the notion of memory retained within material space, as well as how our own memories can affect our awareness of objects and places.
I have always believed that the passage of time is the melting pot that adds mystery to the human experience. In the course of my investigations I have felt "vibrations" or "echoes" in certain places or in the handling of certain objects. I ask myself if others have this perception? How do they relate to these places and objects? If I know the history of my subject does it change how I feel about it? What role does my history play in understanding the evidence of our world?
My intention is to venture through into history, knowledge, and memory to decipher ideas of how these transmit over time. Whether using a camera, computer, camcorder, or pen and pencil, my inclination is to stimulate the viewer's memory and perspective on the passage of time and consider how it alters our perception...
